Transfer Admission Guarantee
Step up to what’s next in your education.
UC Irvine's Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program guarantees admission to highly qualified students from all California Community Colleges. Admission to most majors at UC Irvine can be guaranteed through TAG for transfer students who meet the eligibility requirements and complete the online TAG application.
The following programs DO NOT participate in TAG: Art, Business Administration, Dance, Music, Nursing Science, and ALL majors in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences.
Applying to TAG
- Create the UC Transfer Admission Planner (TAP) to start your TAG application
- Submit your TAG application between September 1 - 30 via UC TAP
- Submit the UC Application between October 1 - December 2 (Note: The primary major on your UC application must match the major on your TAG application)
- Submit the Transfer Academic Update via your UC Application by January 31
- Fulfill all remaining TAG requirements by the end of the spring term before fall enrollment
TAG Requirements
Students must meet all of the requirements in their entirety in order to be considered for TAG. Failing to meet and/or maintain any of the above guidelines automatically voids the guarantee.
Scenarios Precluding TAG Eligibility or Approval
- Students who are concurrently enrolled in high school at the time of TAG submission
- Students who have already earned a bachelor, graduate and/or professional degree
- Students who previously enrolled at UC Irvine during a regular term (excluding summer)
- Students who are not in good standing at any UC campus
- Students who have not completed at least 30 UC transferable semester units (equivalent to 45 quarter units) at a California Community College
- Students who were not enrolled at a California Community college during their last term (excluding summer session)
- Students who require more than 19 UC transferable semester units (equivalent to 28.5 quarter units) during their last term in order to meet the minimum 60 UC transferable semester unit (90 quarter units) requirement
- Students who attended any college or university other than a CA Community College and have more than 80 UC transferable semester units (equivalent to 120 quarter units) overall, after applying UC-lower division unit limitations and exclusions
The following scenarios will also nullify your TAG application:
- Incomplete or inaccurate academic history reported in the coursework section of the TAG application and/or UC Application
- Incomplete or no Transfer Academic Update submitted by the TAU deadline (January 31, 2025)
- No response submitted to our request for additional information by the stated deadline
- Submission of the UC application with a different primary major than your TAG application major
Many students who are not eligible for TAG are still well-qualified for admission and are strongly encouraged to apply to UC Irvine through the regular application process without a TAG.
For fall 2025 admission, the UC Application filing period is October 1 – December 2, 2024.
TAG Tips
- Review the majors you select closely. The major you select for TAG and your primary major on your UC application must match exactly in order for your TAG application to remain active. You will not be able to change your TAG major after you submit your TAG. You will not be able to change your primary major after you submit your UC application.
- All college or university courses and grades need to be reported in both your TAG and UC applications, even if significant time has passed or the courses do not directly relate to the major you are currently applying for. Do not exclude any colleges or coursework as doing so will void your TAG.
- Confirm that you will meet all major prerequisites in addition to TAG requirements prior to submitting your TAG application.
